Sam loves writing her name everywhere, including our walls. The funny thing is that she writes from left to right, and from right to left... Posted by Hello

Sam sometimes wants to hog our Xbox. She likes playing Shark Tale and Finding Nemo. She also likes watching the CGI intro movie of Dead or Alive Ultimate, and even won one match in Story mode on the Easy setting. Posted by Hello

tantra's back

The Tantra massively multiplayer online role-playing is back online and a two-day character rollback has apparently been implemented. Here's a Tantra update that came out yesterday afternoon in Breaking News before it was placed in the Infotech section.

hacking downs tantra

Proving once more how a few rotten eggs can spoil the fun for everyone, hacking violations have forced ABS-CBN Interactive to announce that the game servers for their massively multiplayer online role-playing game Tantra will be temporarily down.

Here's an excerpt from my Infotech story that came out last night:

Hacking downs ABS-CBN online game

AN ONLINE role-playing game run by ABS-CBN Interactive is temporarily down after a hacking attack disrupted its operations.

On Monday morning, administrators of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Tantra posted this advisory on the game's website, tantra.ph:

"Game Servers are Down

"We are interrupting the service due to serious hacking violations done to the game. The team is currently resolving the issue and will have Tantra back online as soon as possible.

"We have unequivocally decided to immediately ban all accounts/characters being put into question as this has been a clear violation of the Terms of Use of Tantra.

"It is our pre-eminent intention to ensure that balance will again be restored in the world of Tantra. Your continued and constant vigilance will greatly help us in our quest to make Tantra the best gaming experience there is for everyone.

"Please accept our sincerest thanks for understanding our position. ABS-CBN Interactive is and will always be deeply committed to promoting and preserving the integrity of the game."

E-mails sent by INQ7.net to the game's administrators went unanswered and no contact telephone numbers were provided on the site, but a Tantra player who requested the use of the pseudonym "manas" said the hacking disrupted the economy of the game's virtual world.

santa's army

Want to send people a different kind of Christmas card? Then check out Santa's Army.

The e-card is from Kokoro-works.com, the new company of Gabby Dizon and his fellow former members of the INQ7 team Dart Tiglao and Maoie Estrella. This is still just the soft launch but as you'll see when you check out the card, it's a very promising new company.

So check out the site, send the e-card to everyone you know and help spread the word.

return of master chief

Read my @Play Infotech column for my take on Halo 2. Here's an excerpt:

Halo 2: Great game
ends with a whimper

Sound schizophrenic? If you've played and finished this much-hyped Xbox game (event actually, because it's broken all sorts of gaming industry records and has sold over five million copies so far), you know exactly what I mean. It's still a great game, no question about it, but the ending? Arghh!

I won't spoil the game for those who haven't played through Halo 2 yet, but let's just say you'll feel very strongly about the controversial cliffhanger ending. You're either going to like it and defend it as the ending Bungie planned all along, or you're going to cuss when you realize it's the ending and that's all the thanks you get for the 10 to 15 hours you've put into finishing Halo 2. I'm firmly in the camp of people who think the ending's full of crap.

You know how you don't want some games to end even as you desperately try to finish them as quickly as possible, because you want to see the conclusion, move on to another title, or, I dunno, do other things in life? Well, I found myself saying, “Nah, this can’t be the last stage. I mean, it can't end with me as… Oh good, I was right… see, I get to…WTF?!!! (credits roll).”
